The Indian women stack their wardrobes with plenty of salwar kameez sets, which they buy in readymade forms. They may also buy suitable dress material for getting the dress stitched exactly according to their sizes. Many varieties of fabrics are used for stitching salwar kameez suits in India, among which a few have gained vast popularity.

The dupatta (chunari, chunariya, orhni or odhani) is a shawl-like scarf, women's traditionally essential clothing from the Indian subcontinent. The embroidery is typically done using floss silk thread on woven cotton fabric, although now it's also done on chanderi, silk and other fabrics.
